Shounak Roy

Shounak Roy is a talented 17-year-old Sarod player who is shaping his destiny under the guidance of the legendary Sarod Maestro Padma Bhushan Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta. Currently a Junior Scholar (Grade A) at the esteemed ITC Sangeet Research Academy (SRA), Kolkata, Shounak is on a journey to become a professional artist in the realm of Hindustani Classical Music. Shounak's dedication to classical music has earned him several accolades, marking him as a rising star in the world of Indian classical instrumental music. One of his notable achievements includes winning The Telegraph School Awards for Excellence in 2023, where he was honoured with a Gold Medal for his outstanding talent in Indian Classical Music, specifically in the instrumental category of Sarod. Shounak's skill sets extend to national recognition, as he is one of the selected 50 Young Talented Musicians from all over India to receive the Sri Shanmukhananda Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music. Shounak's exceptional skills were showcased in various competitions, including securing the 1st Position in the Hindustani Classical – Instrumental Segment (Under 18 Category) in the Swara Samrat Festival Global Championship (2020-2021). Performing on both national and international platforms, Shounak has mesmerised audiences with his Sarod Jugalbandi, earning accolades in prestigious events like the National Seminar on Nimbarka Philosophy in Varanasi, 'Basant Ki Bahar' Music Concert in Kolkata, and the KBR Bimalarpan Sangeet Mahotsav in Bhilai. Shounak Roy's journey as a Sarod player is not just a pursuit of excellence but a testament to the rich legacy of Indian classical music. His harmonious blend of traditional classical and the aspiration to incorporate elements of Western music makes him a distinctive talent, poised for a promising future in the world of Hindustani Classical Music.
