At the young age of 17, Amey Agarwal, a student of St Xavier's Collegiate School, Kolkata, has emerged as a beacon of resilience, compassion and hope. Overcoming a 15-year-long battle with Nephrotic Syndrome, his story transcends mere personal triumph. Founder of the non-profit organisation Nephrohelp, Amey has raised an impressive ₹25 lakhs, facilitating life-altering kidney transplants for children grappling with the condition. His dynamic approach to fundraising, collaborating with 15 multinational giants including Skoda, Volkswagen and Roxx, highlights his zealous efforts! In a bid to raise awareness about Nephrotic Syndrome, Amey organised a walkathon on World Kidney Day 2022, engaging over 300 participants and raising funds exceeding ₹1.5 lakhs, which was used to buy masks which were donated to healthcare workers and patients at the Institute of Child Health, Kolkata. He has touched the lives of hundreds of families by providing them with essential medicines and necessities, thereby underscoring his dedication to community well-being. His commitment to enable free health check-ups for 3,000 children by 2023 and fundraising ₹15 lakhs for a sonography machine which would provide treatment to over 2,000 children every year, reflects a visionary dedication to accessible healthcare. Meanwhile, he has also co-authored a book titled, ‘Nephrohelp’s Guide to Nephrotic Syndrome,’ which was published in both Hindi and Bengali. Donating over 2500 books in rural areas, he aimed to amplify the impact of such healthcare advocacy. Amey's impact reverberates far beyond Kolkata. He was one of the recipients of the 2023 Diana Award, which honours young people working to bring impactful changes in society and improve the lives of others!
