Very few can spin a web like Ravichandran Ashwin in modern-day test matches. Today, India’s veteran off-spinner achieved a landmark 500 wickets, a feat only matched by one other Indian in Test matches. Ashwin reached this milestone by dismissing Zak Crawley in the ongoing India vs England third Test in Rajkot. While Ashwin is the fastest Indian to bag 500 Test wickets, only Muttiah Muralitharan, the former Sri Lankan cricketer, has taken fewer games to reach the 500 mark. Ashwin needs 120 more wickets to surpass Anil Kumble and become India’s highest wicket-taker in Test matches. Referred to as the “astronaut” by Ravi Shastri, Ashwin could well surpass Kumble’s 619 wickets mark before wrapping up his Test career.  It’s a proud moment for the 3rd ranked bowler according to the ICC rankings. Take a look at the landmark moment as shared by the Indian Cricket Team’s Instagram page. Dinesh Karthik’s commentary defining the genius of Ashwin only makes the video more wholesome.
