The Trinamul Congress on Monday made public a copy of a purported FIR lodged by the CBI charging an Enforcement Directorate officer named Rajkumar Ram with multiple offences and asked whether he was in the team that had gone to raid party leader Shahjahan Sheikh’s home in Sandeshkhali and got injured.
Trinamul spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said on Monday that they had come across an FIR lodged by the CBI in which an officer named Rajkumar Ram, who he said is an assistant director in the agency, has been accused of offences such as possessing assets disproportionate to income, criminal conspiracy and abetment to offence.
“The CBI is already carrying out an investigation against ED officer Rajkumar Ram. There are IPC sections 109, 120B (slapped on him)…. How come the ED sent an officer to raid the house of a TMC leader despite the fact that there is a case pending against the officer with another central agency?” Ghosh said.
He demanded a response from the ED and a clarification on whether the Rajkumar Ram who was injured in Sandeshkhali in North 24-Parganas and is now being treated at a Salt Lake hospital is the same as the one against whom the purported FIR has been lodged.
The purported FIR — dated March 8, 2022, and lodged in Delhi — mentions one Rajkumar Ram and his alleged assets that are disproportionate to his known sources of income between 2016 and 2020, when he was posted in Bangalore and then Guwahati as assistant director of the ED.
No clarification was issued on behalf of the ED till Monday night.
