A student on her way to her Madhyamik exam centre on Saturday made it in the nick of time.
A police officer spotted her crying, unable to find a way to reach the centre in the absence of her parents. The officer dropped her off to the venue in his police vehicle after ensuring a “clear” pathway to make it on time.
For about 10 minutes, Ashika Singh stood crying on NS Road near Howrah Bridge, not sure which bus to take or what to do next. In the next 10 minutes, she was at the gates of the school in Shyambazar to write her Madhyamik paper.
The officer-in-charge of Howrah Bridge traffic guard, Souvik Chakraborty, sought help from his colleagues and seniors in Lalbazar and all the traffic signals were turned “green” for his vehicle to rush down Central Avenue to reach Adarsh Shiksha Niketan, behind Manindra Chandra College, by 11.30am.
A resident of NS Road, Ashika is appearing for Madhyamik as a student of Sri Jain Valika Vidyalaya.
On Saturday, Ashika had been waiting for an acquaintance to drop her to the venue.
“At the gates, I wished her the best for her exam,” Chakraborty told The Telegraph.
