Press meet, human chain to save century-old trees on Jessore Road

The Jessore Road Gach Bachao Committee held two programmes in Kolkata on Saturday

The Jessore Road Gachh Bachao Committee held a meeting at the Kolkata Press Club on March 25 at 3pm and is organising a human chain in Dharmatala in front of the Lenin statue today. The committee demonstrated against the felling of more than 300 trees to construct five railway over bridges and widening a portion of the National Highway 112 near the India-Bangladesh border.

Arpita Saha, convenor of the Jessore Road Gach Bachao Committee said, “We want these trees on Jessore Road to be conserved and the road be declared heritage.” Music practitioner and academician Sahana Bajpaie also rendered support.

Artist Taufik Riaz also shared a series of artworks on his Facebook handle.
