December is right around the corner and so is the excitement for the Christmas season. Kolkata is all lit up and there are a host of events lined up to celebrate the jolly time with music, feasts, skits and more. To tune in to the festive season, My Kolkata lists a few spots where you can celebrate the spirit of Christmas!

Calcutta Christmas Market

Shopping during Christmas is one of the joys of the festivities. Pop-ups are a great option for your Christmas shopping needs and you’re sure to find something for everyone. Arthouse Collective is set to host its Calcutta Christmas Market at Ganges Art Gallery to celebrate the festive vibes. The Ballygunge address will see a number of homegrown art, fashion, lifestyle and food brands showcasing products like jewellery, apparel, baked goods, artwork, decor pieces and more. Some brands that will be on display are Paanchi by Rish, Aytrika’s Women Attire, Paakhi, House of Minimal, Intrigue, Zephyr and more.

Feast of St. Francis Xavier

Christmas is as much about food as anything else. As the chill and merry kick in, the Goan Association of Bengal is set to host the Feast of St.Francis Xavier at the Sacred Heart Church in Dharmatala. Scheduled to take place on December 3, the celebration will begin with The Eucharistic Service followed by a soiree with Goan food, music and dance. Musicians Shayne Hyrapiet and Greig Francis will make a special appearance and belt out some Christmassy numbers.

The Christmas Star

Some traditions never change and become synonymous with the festive season. The Christmas Star, an annual event organised by Songs of the Season, has been around for decades. Titled Songs of the Season 2023, The Christmas Star is back this year at Park Street’s Assembly of God Church with music, skits and wholesome Christmas cheer. The church’s children will be playing their roles in the different skits, and adults will be a part of the choir singing hymns and carols. Musician Zachary Ray will also be present for the celebrations as a special performer.

When: December 8 to 10, 6.30pm onwards

Entry: Rs 100 per ticket, passes available at the Park Street venue from 8am-8pm every day.

Make Your Own Gingerbread House

Remember reading about gingerbread houses as a kid and wishing you could make them for yourself? Well, here’s your chance! Busy Bee Academy in Salt Lake is hosting a gingerbread house making event. Patisserie chef Shelza Chand will be conducting the workshop to guide kids and adults through making their personal Christmas treat. While the event is open to everyone above the age of six, kids below the age of 10 will require an adult to help them create their house.
