A Gold medalist in B.Tech from NIT Durgapur and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi, thirty-year-old Rimita made it to the final list in her fifth attempt. Coming from a modest background, Rimita took up the job of an Assistant Professor at Kalinga Institute of Technology in Bhubaneswar following her MTech. However, she left her job to focus solely on her dream of joining the IAS.

"It was really tough. I used to devote 8-10 hours every day for studies. It would increase to 12-14 hours before the exam. Few days before the exam, I even used to have lunch and dinner at my study desk in Delhi," said Rimita.

A resident of Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas, Rimita left for Old Rajinder Nagar in Delhi after her initial preparation from Kolkata and appeared in the examination from there.

Rimita has credited her parents, sister and friends for her success.

"I am grateful to my parents for the continuous support they have extended to me during my days of preparation. It is due to their support that I was able to reach here. I am also grateful to my sister Rinita and my friend Satyajit who provided me with all the motivation I needed in preparing for the exam," she said.

Rimita's father Shyamal Saha is an Electric Contractor while her mother works in the postal department.

"She and her sister are the first-generation graduates of the family. She has always been a serious student. We, with our limited knowledge, couldn't guide them properly. Whatever she has achieved today is on her own," said her father.

Rinita too is elated at her elder sister's achievements. The 2nd year medical student at Calcutta Medical College however does not wish to follow in the footsteps of her sister. She wants to become a doctor and serve the society.
