For the ICAI CA Intermediate Examination, we spoke with Educator and CA Niraj Agarwal who shared his valuable insights on the exam for the students.

"In the CA Inter examination, there are two groups. In Group I, there are three papers, i.e. Advanced Accounting, Taxation and Law. Group 2 also consists of three papers, i.e. Cost, Audit and Financial Management and Strategic Management (FMSM). Students need to obtain 40 percent marks in individual papers and 300 marks in aggregate," said CA Niraj Agarwal.

"In the last 4-5 days before the examination, one should focus on Advanced Accounts. For those who are appearing in a single group at the examination, they should focus more on revision and appear in mock tests for each subject," he added.

"Students appearing only in Group II have a good amount of time left for preparation as they will appear in the exam after the Group 1 exam concludes. So these students should utilise the time for revision and then appear for the mock test," he told The Telegraph Online Edugraph.

He also advised students appearing in Group I to prepare the advanced accounting paper holistically as it will help them answer the paper brilliantly and score good marks. This, according to CA Agarwal, will help them in building their confidence for the rest of the exam.

"Many students are concerned regarding the papers on Audit and law since in these papers they have to interpret and articulate their answers. In the portion of Strategic Management too, students other face difficulties," he said.

He also advised students to remember key terms for the Audit paper and have strong grip on sections like CARO, Company audit and Standards on Auditing.

"If students can gain command over these three sections, they can easily solve case studies of the question paper," said CA Niraj.

"Candidates can also add visual presentations like graphs and different diagrams and should cover all key points in their answers. This will help them in scoring good marks. Apart from these, if students have a clear concept of a subject, then they can easily score good marks in the MCQ portion," he added.

"Students should be strong in Accounting Standards portions for the Advanced Accounts paper. They must be aware of the AS provisions and be able to connect them with the given case studies and form a conclusion. Also, students must have a grip over sections like consolidated financial statement and amalgamation," he advised.
