The Trinamul leadership in north Bengal on Tuesday blamed the BJP after Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials on Sunday cancelled the former's bookings of two special trains to carry party workers to Calcutta for the March 10 mega rally.

“We followed all formalities and booked two trains through the IRCTC to take our workers to the Jana Garjan Sabha in Calcutta on March 10. We had deposited Rs 11 lakh each.... Suddenly, railway authorities cancelled the bookings,” said Udayan Guha, the north Bengal development minister, in Siliguri. “It was done at the behest of the BJP. The party made an unethical attempt to hinder our grand assembly in Calcutta, but such tactics won't work.”

The trains were supposed to depart from Alipurduar and Cooch Behar for Sealdah on March 8.

Prakash Chik Baraik, a Rajya Sabha member of Trinamul, added: “As BJP leaders fear lakhs will assemble in Calcutta at our event, they forced railway officials to cancel trains. But they can’t deter us. We are making alternative transport arrangements."
