Siliguri mayor Gautam Deb, who is also the chairman of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) of North Bengal Medical College & Hospital (NBMCH), said all efforts were being made to open a super-specialty block at the earliest at the facility.

“Some medical machines are yet to reach NBMCH from Muzaffarpur in Bihar for the super-specialty block. We have informed the state health department about the delay. We want to start all departments at the new block as early as possible. There are some problems with the MRI and I will hold a meeting with the agency concerned in the first week of December to resolve the problem,” said Deb after attending a meeting of the RKS at the administrative building of the NBMCH.

For the new block, a 1300 kilowatt generator set reached NBMCH. “The installation will start soon, along with a dedicated power line,” Deb said.

In the next month, Deb, along with some other representatives of the medical college, will visit Calcutta to meet officials of the state health department to resolve certain pending issues of NBMCH.

“We have drawn up an estimate of Rs 25 lakh for the installation of CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas of NBMCH. It is necessary to have digital surveillance,” said Deb.
