Santiniketan police on Wednesday interrogated former Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty again on Wednesday, based on two separate criminal complaints.
One was by the Santiniketan Trust, for having installed the controversial plaques omitting Rabindranath Tagore's name on its land without permission, and another was by a citizen, against the language used in a recent letter to Mamata Banerjee.
The team headed by Santiniketan police officer-in-charge Kasturi Mukherjee (Chatterjee) interrogated Chakrabarty for about an hour.
A police official said the interrogation, held at the Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor's official bungalow Purbita, was made after an order of Calcutta High Court. Chakrabarty has not vacated the official bungalow and has informed Visva-Bharati through his lawyer that he needs to stay there till November 30.
“This was the second round of interrogation, in connection with cases related to the plaques and his letter to the chief minister,” said a senior police official.
“On Monday, we interrogated him in connection with three other cases, including his controversial comments on Durga Puja and Bengalis,” he added.
The Santiniketan police sent Chakrabarty summonses in connection with five criminal cases on November 9, a day after his five-year term ended as the VC, to interrogate him on November 10.
Chakrabarty moved Calcutta High Court, which issued an interim stay on the summonses, but asked cops to interrogate him on November 20 and 22. The case will be heard by the high court on November 29.
On Wednesday, traders, artisans and citizens also met interim VC Sanjoy Kumar Mallik requesting the resumption of the Pous Mela.
