BJP workers demonstrated on NH12 at Badhapukur turning under Englishbazar police station limits in Malda district on Monday alleging that Prasenjit Singh, a close relative of the party's zilla parishad candidate Nimai Singh contesting from seat number 27, had been abducted on Sunday.

The demonstration of the BJP and its youth wing workers on the national highway disrupted the traffic for nearly 30 minutes. Police later intervened and the blockade was withdrawn.

Parthasarathi Ghosh, BJP president of Malda South organisational district, alleged that Trinamul-backed goons attacked the house of Singha and abducted his brother Prasenjit on Sunday afternoon.

“Few of our party workers are still missing. We are trying to find them out. Some of our candidates for Zilla Parishad and panchayat samiti are hiding too anticipating that they might be forced by the Trinamul goons to withdraw their candidature. Therefore, we decided to demonstrate to draw the attention of the police and administrations," Ghosh said.

Police, however, claimed that the youth, who was politically claimed to be abducted, was found at the house of his father-in-law at Pratappur under Mothabari police station.

Police issued a statement on the incident and claimed that Prasenjit Singh a.k.a Suman went back to his house in the Kanchantar area on Sunday.

About 3.30pm when he was going along Mohadipur Main Road, all of a sudden one unknown miscreant asked him to board a four-wheeler at Kanchantar. Singh, being afraid, sat in the rear seat of the car. There was none else except Singh and the driver in the car.

When the car reached Jadupur Gabgachhi, the driver let Singh go out of the car and even hired an e-rickshaw that dropped him at Badhapukur turning.

Being scared, Singh, instead of going to his house decided to go to his father-in-law's house as claimed by police.

The police also claimed that the complaint received from Singh did not suggest any political angle to the incident.

Congress protest

Congress MP of Malda south AH Khan Choudhury a.k.a Dalu led a protest of the party workers at Manikchak police station on Monday.

The Congress workers alleged that Trinamul on Saturday evening tried to abduct two panchayat candidates fielded by the party from Balupur village.

"Five houses of the party workers were ransacked and looted by Trinamul goons. But police instead of taking action against the accused are harassing Congress workers. They are even being threatened with false cases by a section of police officials. So we decided to protest and submit a memorandum to Manikchak police station," said Mottakin Alam, a former Congress MLA of Manikchak.
