The privileges committee of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution to revoke the suspension of Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury after he appeared before the panel and clarified his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The committee unanimously adopted a resolution to revoke the suspension of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury after the leader appeared before the committee and expressed regret over his remarks,” a member of the panel said. The report will be sent to the Lok Sabha Speaker and Adhir’s suspension will stand withdrawn after a formal notification, officials said.

Adhir was suspended from the Lok Sabha on the last day of the monsoon session of Parliament on August 11 for his remarks against Modi during the debate on the no-confidence motion. The motion for Adhir’s suspension was moved by the government, which accused him of “deliberate and repeated misconduct” and referred the matter to the privileges committee.
