Four ‘firearm dealers’ arrested

Police have also recovered cartridges and magazines from quartet

Police have arrested four persons suspected to be dealers of illegal firearms from different locations in Malda and Cooch Behar districts on Wednesday night and seized seven such weapons from them.

The police have also recovered cartridges and magazines from the quartet.

In Malda, Halim Sheikh and Johny Sheikh were nabbed from Ghraialiachowk bazar. The police seized four 7mm pistols, five empty magazines and six rounds of live ammunition from them. The duo are residents of Hazinagar-Chandpur of Kaliachak.

Another police team held Mubarak Sheikh from his house in Narayanpur village of Kaliachak after an improvised 7mm pistol was recovered from his possession.

In Cooch Behar, Dinhata police arrested Arjun Mandal with an improvised semi-automatic pistol, an improvised one-shutter gun, and 10 rounds of live cartridges. He is a resident of Rajakhora area under Petla panchayat.

According to the police, Mandal has around 10 criminal cases pending againsthim.

The police said a probe was on.
