Gautam Deb, the Siliguri mayor and a former student of the school, said on Friday that so many alumni had excelled in various fields. They are established and renowned in their respective fields like sports, academia and culture, he said.

“We have decided to organise a reunion of the alumni of the 105-year-old school. We are also working to fulfil the criteria that are required to achieve heritage status for the institution,” Deb, who is also the president of the alumni association, said.

The mayor on Friday launched the newly-developed website of the institution (siliguriboyshighschool.in) on its premises. “There are plans to construct a gate and a centenary hall in the school. The state government has sanctioned Rs 15 lakh for the school’s infrastructure development,” said Deb.

Sources said the three-day event would begin on January 12 when former students would register for the event and would be provided with kits and mementoes.

The following day, members of the alumni association will participate in a colourful procession, which will be followed by various events throughout the day that include the launch of a wall magazine (Abirbhab), an exhibition, and a cultural event in the evening.

“On the concluding day, there will be the inauguration of a souvenir, felicitation of former heads of the institution, former teachers and prominent alumni. Singers Jayati Chakraboarty and Anjan Dutta will perform at the reunion event,” Deb said.
