Stunning immersive display with hole-punch, the S10+ is packed with innovations and a killer triple-camera set up on the rear — a 12MP telephoto camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera and 16MP ultra-wide camera. They can work together or separately, depending on the occasion. Though there is a Pro mode but pictures taken on the fly are just as good as those taken using the Google Pixel 3 or iPhone XS Max. The ultrawide-angle camera is a lot of fun.

Yes, it has a cool shark-fin pop-up front camera that takes mere 0.8 seconds to rise but we are impressed by what’s on the back. The three-camera set-up has a primary 48MP lens, then an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 13MP telephoto lens, which all have different focal lengths and they all come together to cover a focal length of 60 to 160mm. On most phones, the big problem with long zoom photos is if the phone shakes, the image gets blurred. On the Reno there is prism optical image stabilisation. The company is using the movement of the prism to eliminate phone shakes. You don’t even need a tripod to take amazing pictures.

The Huawei P30 Pro

Yes, the company is in a tricky spot in the US but nobody can deny that it’s one of the most innovative companies around. The camera set-up on the rear is the superhero of the device. The P20 Pro had three cameras on the back with a 3x optical zoom. The P30 Pro adds a ToF (time of flight) camera, which makes all the difference in portrait shots and augmented reality. It joins the main 40MP camera and a 20MP ultrawide-angle camera (besides the 8MP telephoto shooter). The sensor can draw a depth map of one’s environment, which takes photography to a new level, especially in portrait mode and the bokeh shot. The 8MP telephoto lens, like a periscope, uses a prism to refract light down the inside of the width of the phone. The P30 Pro supports up to 5x optical, 10x hybrid and 50x digital zoom.

LG should market its smartphones much more aggressively because it is home to some cool devices. On the back is a 12MP lens to take normal shots and keeping it company is a 12MP telephoto lens that gives you 2x optical zoom and a 16MP super wide-angle lens. The company has bundled the camera with a bunch of lighting tools for portrait photos and skin tones come out just perfect.

There are three lenses on the back, including an ultra wide-angle 16MP lens (117 degree field of view) and an 8MP telephoto lens. The main shooter is 48MP and it comes with the Sony IMX586 sensor. One can shoot 4K videos at 30/60 fps. While the primary camera captures all the details and offer excellent low-light performance, the up to 10x digital zoom rivals some of the best.

What we have is a 32MP primary shooter with F1.7 aperture and keeping it company is a 5MP (F2.2 live focus) and an 8MP (123-degree ultra-wide lens). In bright light, the camera picks up all the details, giving print-quality photographs. And the autofocus is quite fast. In low light, the M40 also turns in a solid performance. One can record 4K videos and there is a super slow-mo at 240FPS and hyperlapse mode. The result — even in low light — is comparable to those shot on flagship devices. What we like most are videos shot using the ultra-wide lens.

(to be launched)

The Redmi K20 Pro was launched alongside Redmi K20 in China last month and Xiaomi India chief Manu Kumar Jain recently tweeted: “Which is the world’s fastest smartphone? #RedmiK20Pro of course! Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, triple cameras, and so much more. This is what a flagship should be.” On the rear, the Redmi K20 Pro sports a triple-camera 48MP+13MP+8MP

set-up. The primary sensor is a Sony IMX486, whereas the 8MP and 13MP sensors are accompanied by a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens respectively.

It comes with a 13MP main camera, 8MP AI super wide-angle camera and 2MP depth camera. Having an AI-based triple camera set-up at this price is a steal. One of the elements that’s being promoted is ‘beauty’, which enhances facial features and offers customised solutions.
