No, but it could be changing!

A penny for your thoughts - or perhaps a 'Fleet'?

That's what Twitter is calling its new feature, that they say will allow people to post thoughts they might otherwise feel uncomfortable about sharing in public. The 'Fleet' will then vanish within 24 hours.

Does the idea of vanishing posts sound familiar? It does to Twitter too.

Kayvon Beykpour, the micro-blogging platform's product lead said 'I know what you're thinking: “THIS SOUNDS A LOT LIKE STORIES!”. He added that there are many similarities with the Stories format (on Facebook or Instagram), but also a few 'intentional differences'.

He said posting on Twitter can often feel 'permanent and performative', and people worry about likes and retweets. 'Fleets are a way to share fleeting thoughts,' said Beykpour. He added that fleets won't get likes, retweets or public replies, and people can only react to them via direct messages.

'Instead of showing up in people’s timelines, Fleets are viewed by tapping on your avatar,' he said in his seven-part Twitter post.

Noting it as a substantial change to Twitter, Beykpour said he was hoping that Fleets can help people share the fleeting thoughts that they would have been unlikely to Tweet.

Whether screenshots have been kept in mind, we don't know yet.

The concept was rolled out on Wednesday and is still in its testing phase in Brazil.

If Twitter has been running out of ideas, Twitterati sure haven't. All they wanted was an 'edit' button!

And for some, it was some fleeting wishful thinking.
