There had been four instances of power cuts during the chief minister’s two-day stay at Tiyabon, Mamata is learnt to have said at the meeting.

A probe was conducted and on Friday, Rajesh Pandey, the CMD of state power utility WBSEDCL, issued an order mentioning that Shanta Roy, the manager of the Malbazar division, and Sheikh Abdul Shamim, an assistant engineer (technical), had been suspended for dereliction of duty.

“It has been found that both of them had the responsibility of ensuring that power supply remained uninterrupted during the chief minister’s stay. In the inquiry it was found that they did not deliver on their responsibilities properly,” a source said.

A chief engineer attached to WBSEDCL has been asked to conduct an inquiry into what led to the disruptions in power supply. “He has been asked to submit a report within a week,” the source said.
