On Christmas eve, Park Street will remain one-way from 1pm to 1am (from Chowringhee towards Park Circus).

The police have started imposing traffic curbs on Park Street during Christmas season for the past few years to accommodate thousands of people who land up for the Christmas festival at Allen Park or to just roam in the area, which is decked out in lights.

“So many people — young and old, men and women visit Park Street... to minimise the chances of any unwanted incident and to maintain law and order, it is important to prevent haphazard movement of the crowd,” an officer said.

“Some mischief-makers always try to take advantage of the crowd moving in the opposite direction. So, the entire street will be divided into multiple flanks earmarked for unidirectional movement of pedestrians. Park Street will be divided into zones for better crowd management.”
