CCTV footage showed the man entering the building alone and walking upstairs around 4.07am, police investigators said.

Residents of Golf Green Phase IV found the man lying in a pool of blood around 6.35am. He was taken to MR Bangur Hospital, where he was declared dead.

“Some domestic help spotted the body and raised the alarm. I rushed to the spot. There was a lot of blood. We could not recognise his face,” said a man who runs an ironing shop close to the spot where the body was found.

The preliminary post-mortem report suggested that the man had suffered fractures in both his wrists and right femur bone, an officer of Jadavpur police station said.

An unnatural death case has been started.

A photograph of the body has been circulated across police stations for identification.

The man was wearing a round-neck grey T- shirt and a pair of grey-white checked trousers.
