BJP leader Mukul Roy has been asked by Delhi High Court on Thursday to “cooperate with Calcutta police” in a cash-recovery probe.
The high court had earlier granted Roy protection from “coercive action” for 10 days to enable him to move a trial court in Calcutta for bail.
Hearing a plea by Roy challenging notices by Calcutta police, Justice A.K. Chawla of the high court on Thursday asked the leader to join the investigation and be available for questioning on Friday. Roy was not available for comment.
An additional metropolitan magistrate’s court in Calcutta had on July 29 issued a bailable warrant against Roy for violating its order to appear before it in connection with the case that pertains to the recovery of Rs 90 lakh from a public servant by Burrabazar police in July 2018.
“The police had served a notice on my client, asking him to appear for interrogation. Challenging its validity, Roy had moved Delhi High Court. Since Roy is now a permanent resident of Delhi and a voter there, the notice should be served on him there,” Roy’s counsel, Subhasish Dasgupta, had said in the Calcutta court on July 29.
“In February this year, Roy informed the metropolitan magistrate that he would co-operate with the police if he was approached in Delhi. It was decided that the police would meet Roy in Delhi,” Dasgupta had said.
