A 47-year-old woman who was allegedly posing as an officer of the Intelligence Bureau and abusing the national emblem has been arrested on charges of forgery and cheating.

Police sources said the woman — Ochira Yadav — had sought Rs 5 lakh from a youth after promising him a government job. On Monday, the complainant got suspicious and approached police.

“The accused identified herself as an inspector-general in IB. We came to know that there were no officers in IB by that name. We found that she had been using the national emblem on her vehicle. IB officers usually conceal their identity. She was doing the opposite,” said an officer.

Yadav — a resident of Purbalok, along the Bypass — has been remanded in police custody till February 8.
