A person died and six others, including a forest official, suffered injuries in three different accidents in Alipurduar district since Friday night.

Sweta Rai, the divisional manager of Buxa logging division of the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation, got injured when the SUV she was travelling in collided with a truck around 1.30am on NH31C. Sukhraj Rai, 54, the car driver and also a staff of the forest department, died on the spot.

Locals rescued Rai and rushed her to Siliguri where she is under treatment at a nursing home.

A truck collided with the rails of the bridge over the Bania, a local stream, on NH31C on Friday night. The driver and the helper have suffered injuries and are under treatment at the district hospital. Traffic movement was halted on the stretch for around three hours.

Another truck that was loaded with oranges turned on its side on NH31C near Shishubari under Madarihat police station. The driver was trying to overtake another vehicle. Three persons have got injured, the police said.
