The CBI on Sunday reconstructed what it described as the “scene of crime” in the Narada scam as the sleuths went to BJP leader Mukul Roy’s Elgin Road residence here, videographing the sequence based on arrested IPS officer S.M.H. Meerza’s account.

Soon after, Roy accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of conspiring to malign him and his party.

Sources in the central agency said Meerza — once known for his proximity to Roy — helped with the reconstruction in the Elgin Road flat, in Roy’s presence, for around 45minutes.

The sources said the reconstruction was based on Meerza’s claim that he had handed over to Roy the money that a person resembling the officer was seen taking in the Narada footage.

Former railway minister Roy was then de facto Number Two of Trinamul in 2014, besides a Rajya Sabha member, when the Narada footage was purportedly recorded. “I have never been seen on camera accepting Narada funds…. This is clearly a conspiracy, by none other than the chief minister herself…. There are instructions to somehow malign Mukul Roy, malign the BJP,” said Roy, who is apparently back on the CBI radar since the arrest of Meerza.

Sources in the agency said for the second consecutive day, Meerza seemed “relaxed” during the questioning, while Roy “lost his cool” more than once. On Saturday, Roy was interrogated face to face with Meerza.
