Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked a Bengal BJP delegation that met him at Raj Bhavan on Saturday about the agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, a senior leader who was part of the team claimed.

‘“Who are behind this (anti-CAA agitation)?’ Modiji asked us when we met him at Raj Bhavan this evening,” the leader told The Telegraph.

“He is aware of what is going on in Bengal in the name of protests against the amended citizenship law. We told him that urban Naxals and Bangladeshi infiltrators are organising the protests. We also told the Prime Minister that the Trinamul Congress was assisting these forces,” the BJP leader added.

Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh led the delegation to the Prime Minister, which also included national secretary Rahul Sinha and senior leader Mukul Roy. The team is said to have briefed Modi about the protests against the CAA and told him that they were getting a positive response from common people at rallies in support of the amended law.

The Left Front and the Congress questioned the one-to-one meeting between Mamata and Modi at Raj Bhavan.

“She wants to save her party leaders from the central investigative agencies, which are conducting probes on chit fund scams and the Narada sting. This is the reason why she went to meet Modi and decided to skip the Opposition meeting (in Delhi on Monday) to strengthen the anti-CAA agitation,” said Sujan Chakraborty, the CPM MLA of Jadavpur.

“She has completely surrendered before Modi to make the scams go away. Why did she not take any official along with her to place the demands of Bengal before the Prime Minister?” Congress MLA Manoj Chakraborty said.
