The Bengal BJP is planning “grand celebrations” and the felicitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah for the passage of the CAB bill amid the protests against the law.

“We are planning a grand felicitation for Modiji and Amitji. Around 18 refugee organisations, including the Matuas, have already written to the PMO and home minister’s office seeking their presence for the grand celebrations in Calcutta in January,” said state BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu.

“Amitji has asked us to organise grand celebrations across the state following the passage of the bill. We have asked all 1,200 mandals across Bengal to reach out to the people and explain its benefits,” Basu added.

Sources in the state BJP headquarters said the party was “not at all worried” about the protests.

Basu got a taste of the protest when his car was ransacked by a mob in East Midnapore’s Bhupatinagar on Friday. He escaped with minor bruises. His car was severely damaged.

“Nobody in Bengal is a fool. People understand why Bengal is turning violent and who are behind it. Opposing the CAB, Didi had made her anti-Bengali stand loud and clear,” BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said.

According to BJP insiders, the party is planning to organise a workshop in Calcutta on December 21 and 22 on the citizen bill.
