Lady bikers of the city hit the streets once again on Sunday with their male counterparts, this time to spread awareness on road safety and make people understand the dangers of rash driving.

Clad with riding boots, biker jackets, hand gloves and helmets, the bikers were accompanied by car riders as well on Sunday. The rally, which started from a star hotel of the city in the morning touched almost all the major junctions of the city.

“Nearly 100 riders and drivers of various age groups joined the rally and supported us in our initiative. We rode across the city with banners and placards and sensitised people on the road safety issues,” said Niralee Nirlipta, a member of the group.

The rally — named Green TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) Rally — was backed by the Kalinga Motor Sports Club, which was conducted in association with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. The rally was flagged MLA of Bhubaneswar North Priyadarshi Mishra.

“It is important for all road users — mainly bikers and drivers — to stay aware while on the road. Road safety is one of the important aspects, neglecting which one will risk his or her life along with others,” said Mishra.

As per the plan, the rally that started on Sunday will cover approximately 130 km. “A road map used for TSD motor rally have been given to the participants. They have travelled from the city and covered the nearby localities including Khurda,” said an organiser of the rally.

In August, the lady bikers took out a similar rally to spread awareness against crime on women and molestation.

“Our motto is to make the people aware about different aspects of women safety. Today it was different,” said Niralee.

In April too, the women bikers took part in another rally when they wore traditional Odishi attire and rode the bikes along the busy streets of the city.

In April, the women bikers took the initiative to spread awareness on importance of girl child.

“If we can contribute for the betterment of society, we will happily do it. I hope the messages, we are trying to convey are reaching out to the people. Rash driving should be avoided to the utmost extent,” said Barsha Priyambada, a member of Odisha Bikerni Group.
