The new tea auction centre at Jorhat is scheduled to commence from the coming season.
The registration process for “Jorhat tea e-marketplace” began on Tuesday with a camp in Golaghat at the office of the North Eastern Tea Association (NETA).
This is Assam’s second auction centre after Guwahati.
India’s largest e-commerce company, mjunction, has been appointed as the system integrator to design, develop, implement and maintain this e-auction platform in Jorhat.
The company, mjunction services limited, is a 50:50 venture promoted by SAIL and Tata Steel. Founded in February 2001, it is today not only India’s largest ecommerce company (with e-transactions of over Rs 8,06,402 crore till FY19), but also runs the world’s largest e-marketplace for steel.
Officials said this new tea auction centre at Jorhat will be technically different and better from the existing tea auction centres at Guwahati, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Coimbatore, Coonoor and Kochi.
The company is using an innovative e-platform, expected to score heavily in terms of turnaround time and cost effectiveness. There will be more buyers and sellers, reduced transaction cost, automated catalogue management system and other new features to improve price discovery.
Many members of NETA have registered their tea estates and tea processing units in the presence of officials from mjunction and Tea Board.
All tea buyers and tea producers with valid TMCO [Tea (Marketing) and ControlOrder] can register online (emarketplace.teaboard.gov.in).
Similar camps have been organised by mjunction at Dibrugarh on January 22 and at Jorhat on January 23.
