Lt Gen. Shantanu Dayal, general officer commanding (GOC) of Gajraj Corps called on Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Raj Bhavan and Sonowal’s office on Tuesday. He apprised them of the actions being taken by the army and the Assam Rifles towards the maintenance of peace.

Nagaland forms action group

The Nagaland government on Tuesday constituted a nine-member special action group to continuously monitor any situation arising out of novel coronavirus.

The group, headed by principal secretary (home) Abhijit Sinha, has been tasked to ensure that actions are taken in order to keep the state ready for any eventuality apart from taking prompt measures for prevention and control of the spread of the virus.

Various districts in the state are also taking preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19.

Dimapur deputy commissioner Anoop Khinchi on Tuesday suspended all inner line permit (ILP) counters in the district till further order.

Khinchi also said as per the state home department’s order, entry of any foreign and domestic tourists will be barred in the state from Wednesday onwards until further order.

The district administration also directed for closure of all cinema halls in the district.

Kinchi on Wednesday convened a meeting with the Dimapur District Task Force members in his office conference halls to deliberate on more steps to be taken as preventive measures against the virus.

He directed the medical department to activate the control room by Wednesday. He stressed the need for setting up training and awareness cell to continuously work and create awareness among the people about the precautionary steps to be taken.

The meeting also decided to set up help line desk and screenings at Dimapur railway station and different check gates under the district.

Dimapur commissioner of police Tetseo told the meeting that police cyber cell was taking care of any false information being spread in the social media forums about Covid-19.

Dimapur airport director M. Zhimomi said 100 per cent thermal scanning of all the passengers are being done in the airport.

Members of Dimapur district task force besides army, police and CISF, attended the meeting.

The state unit of National People’s Party (NPP) has asked the state government to defer the ensuing municipal and panchayat elections in the state citing the coronavirus pandemic.

Reshuffle in Assam police

In a major reshuffle in the Assam police department on Tuesday, IPS officer Anurag Tankha, who was posted as additional director-general of police (vigilance and anti-corruption) and chief minister’s special vigilance cell, has been placed at the disposal of the Union home ministry in New Delhi on deputation for five years. He will be posted as the inspector-general/joint director of the Bureau of Police Research and Development. Tankha will be replaced by IPS officer Deepak Kumar, at present the Guwahati commissioner of police.

IPS officer K.V. Singh Deo, ADGP for Bureau of Investigation, Economic Offences, and prosecution, will hold additional charges as the ADGP (training and armed police).

IPS officer G.P. Singh, who is also the ADGP (law and order), will hold additional post as the ADGP of Special Task Force.

Buses torched

Unknown persons torched two buses near a godown of Indane Gas service at Goalpara-Pancharatna road here on Monday night. Fire fighters doused it before it could spread to the godown.
