Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi has written to Union home minister Amit Shah seeking “justice” for retired army officer Mohhamed Sanaullah, who has been declared foreigner by a foreigners tribunal here.

Gaurav said he “sincerely” wanted Sanaullah’s “relief”.

“Many media reports indicate the inefficiency of the government officials involved in the incident. I request you to look into the matter and please initiate an inquiry to ensure that they do not continue to perform their duties in this manner,” Gogoi said.

Sanaullah, a resident of Koloikash village under Bodo police station in Kamrup district, was serving as an assistant sub-inspector in border police after retirement from the army. He had joined the armed forces as an official of electronic and mechanical engineering department and was awarded with President’s medal in 2014.

The foreigners’ tribunal in Boko detected a number of discrepancies in the documents submitted by Sanaullah. Among them the names of his family members were different in different documents.

Sanaullah’s cousin Ajmal Haque, a former junior commissioned officer in the army, was posted in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh and Guwahati.

He, too, was declared a “foreigner” in 2017.
