He cycled his way from India Gate, Delhi, to Imphal, 100km a day. Not content with this stupendous 2,800km feat to spread awareness on humanity and a pollution-free environment, Manipur boy Philem Rohan Singh is ready to embark on the second leg of his mission — from Kanyakumari to Kashmir — early next month.

Rohan, 23, the son of late Ph. Boby, is a post-graduate student of English at Sharda University, Greater Noida. He lives with his grandparents at Moirang. His mother was divorced when he was in class II and his father passed away when he was in class XII.

An avid cyclist, Rohan earlier pedalled his way from Manipur to Calcutta (1,700 km) with a message of unity in diversity, campaigning anti-drug and anti-pollution. Last month, he travelled 3,500km in 35 days from Noida to here propagating the cause of the sangai, the brow-antlered deer.

He also led a 10-member team of cyclists from Koirengei, Imphal, to Keibul Lamjao national park in Bishnupur district on the eve of the Sangai Festival, carrying the message of the festival to promote tourism in Manipur.

“During my trips I have interacted with about 1, 20,000 students of various, schools and universities. There are many cyclists who travel with messages. I spread awareness, especially to the youth,” Rohan told The Telegraph here on Tuesday. “Cycling is my passion,” he added.

A travelogue based on his trips is ready for release. “I hope people will buy my book and I dream of donating the money I get from selling the copies to orphans, the elderly and the poor,” Rohan said.

He said he has so far spent nearly Rs 10.6 lakh on his trips. “The support of family and friends made my trip successful and I thank minister Karam Shyam for his support with assistance of Rs 50,000 for my first trip,” he added.

“I am also preparing for a cycle world tour in 2020 with the message on humanity and environment,” Rohan said.
