Rajya Sabha MP and Assam Congress president Ripun Bora and his wife Monika have been quarantined at a star hotel here after he returned from Delhi on Thursday night.

Bora said he had gone to Delhi on official work and had been stranded in the national capital since March 24 midnight, when the lockdown was imposed. On Wednesday, he returned to Guwahati on the Rajdhani Express, which has been started for stranded people to return to their native places.

Bora said after they reached Guwahati, they immediately went to the Sarusajai quarantine centre and got themselves checked according to government protocol.

Following that, they arranged for quarantine at the hotel.

He said he was waiting for the swab test reports of his own and his wife’s and will remain in quarantine for 14 days according to norms.

The senior Congress leader said he wanted to thank the party members and the people who have been working hard during the pandemic. “The people associated with the Congress have done a great job by helping the needy during the lockdown,” he added.

Bora said Congress members have distributed food, masks and sanitisers to the needy and this was a very commendable step during these “hard times”.

Saikia charge: Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia claimed that chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal violated lockdown and Covid-19 norms by holding a public gathering in Majuli on Thursday.
