Assam transport, industry and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Thursday said the Adani Group has offered to set up a logistics park in the state.

He told the Assembly that Adani Logistics, a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) and a part of Adani Group, has proposed to set up a multi-modal logistics park with rail and road connectivity and sought 26,000 bighas for the project.

Patowary shared the information during question hour while replying to a query from AGP legislator Pabindra Deka.

Adani Logistics has set up a multi-modal logistics park at Kila Raipur in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, which commenced operations in April 2017.

A logistics park provides services like cargo aggregation/segregation, distribution, inter-model transfer of material and container, open and closed storage, ambient condition storage for transit period, custom-bonded warehouse, container freight station and infrastructure like internal roads, power lines, communication facilities, water distribution, sewage and drainage lines.

The Assam government has drafted a logistics policy to make the state a logistics hub by setting up warehouses and cold storages.

Adani Logistics has made a commitment to invest Rs 1,000 crore in logistics, power and other sectors in the state.

Apart from the Adani Group, the BR Group has proposed to set up a mega logistics park at Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district at an investment of Rs 150 crore.

During Advantage Assam: Global Investors’ Summit here in February this year, Patowary had said 207 memoranda of understanding were signed for investment up to Rs 51,958.2 crore.

“Apart from this, the industry and commerce department also received proposals from 34 investors,” he said on Thursday.

The minister said after the summit, the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation allotted land and factory sheds to 15 investors for production of items like bitumen emulsion, polymer modified bitumen, crumb rubber modified bitumen, orthopaedic plates and screws, rubber-based elastic tapes, laminated paper bags and steel and wooden furniture, among others.

The aim of the investors’ summit, held for the first time this year, was to highlight the facilities and benefits available for investors in a bid to draw investments to the state.

Though a number of foreign investors also participated in the summit, the state government is yet to sign a letter of intent with any of them.

Patowary said one should not expect investments to follow instantly after the inaugural summit.

He said the Gujarat government has been organising the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit for eight years and reaping rewards now. “Around 5,600 industry representatives participated in the first edition of Advantage Assam, whereas less than 1,000 representatives participated in the inaugural edition of Vibrant Gujarat,” the minister said.
