Matlib and Mia were sent to four days police remand on Thursday.

Former minister Siddique Ahmed, BJP leader Sipra Goon and other villagers had given the police 24 hours to arrest the killers on Wednesday.

Villagers came out on the streets in protest after the recovery of Uddin’s body from a field. He had been missing since Monday. The mob blocked the Assam-Tripura National Highway 8 demanding the arrest of the killers.

Nilambazar police station officer in-charge R.P. Rongmei brought the situation under control with the help of police and CRPF personnel.

Deputy superintendent of police Sudhanya Suklabaidya said a mobile phone, a piece of cloth and medicine strips were found near the body.

The victim’s family members told the police that he had left with the arrested duo on Monday and did not return home. The two even behaved suspiciously when Uddin’s wife went to them later that night when he did not come home.
