A 32-year-old businessman is suspected to have murdered his wife and two minor sons before trying to kill himself at his home in Bagbera Colony under Bagbera police station in the small hours of Monday.

Jitendra Singh has been admitted at Tata Main Hospital with a stab injury in his abdomen.

The deceased have been identified as Jitendra’s wife Rani, 29, and sons Aditya, 10, and Karthik, 4.

The mystery behind the triple murder, which has sent a shockwave among the local residents, could not be revealed immediately as Jitendra is still unconscious and no one else in his joint family knows anything about the reason behind this ghastly incident.

Assistant sub-inspector Ajit Kumar Singh, who is posted at Tata Main Hospital’s camp police station, said: “We had gone to the hospital to take Jitendra’s statement around 11am, but he is yet to come to.”

Jitendra used to stay along with his joint family at their double-storey house on Road No. 6 in Bagbera Colony.

The businessman and his family resided on the ground floor while his brother Rajesh’s family stayed on the first floor.

Police sources said Jitendra’s family members suspected something was wrong when he didn’t open his room’s door after 10am.

When his kin knocked on Jitendra’s door, he found a trail of blood coming from inside the room. The relative peeped through the window to find two children and Jitendra’s wife lying in a pool of blood on the bed and Jitendra lying on the floor with blood all around him.

The relative rushed Jitendra to Tata Main Hospital and subsequently informed the police.

“Initial probe suggests it is a case of murder and attempted suicide. Jitendra Singh may have killed his wife and two children with a sharp weapon before stabbing himself. We will know the real reason only when he returns to his senses,” deputy superintendent of police (law and order) Alok Ranjan told The Telegraph.

Ranjan said they spoke to the family members of Jitendra’s brother, but they were also in shock.

He hinted that a serious family problem might have led to the triple murder.

The bodies have been sent to MGM Medical College mortuary.
