Police personnel deputed at the state’s largest government hospital, RIMS in Bariatu, have been asked to maintain a record of prisoners coming to the hospital for treatment from jails in the wake of Birsa jail undertrial Ashish Ghosh’s sensational escape earlier this month.

The records should clearly state the jail from where the prisoner has arrived, the names of personnel deputed for his or her security, the prisoner’s name and the sections of the IPC or any other Act that they have been charged under, the hospital ward s/he is in and the status of the illness, Ranchi SSP Anish Gupta has ordered.

Ghosh, accused of murdering a 50-year-old woman and her 10-year-old foster son in Bariatu in August last year, escaped from RIMS on October 18. On Tuesday, Ghosh made sensational claims to The Telegraph photographer about his innocence and how he bribed cops to escape.

Gupta, who gave the hospital a surprise visit on Monday evening, said on Tuesday that apart from keeping comprehensive records, an inspector-ranked officer would be deputed at RIMS for the security.

“During my inspection, I found that one sentry remains present at the entrance of prisoners’ ward but the back of the ward is unattended. So, a sentry equipped with communication device will be deputed here too,” SSP Gupta said.

The SSP had after RIMS visited the state-run observation home at Dumardaga where children in conflict with law are kept.

Asked about its security, given that children often manage to escape the building, SSP Gupta said he planned to track the visitors to the campus. “The office of the Juvenile Justice Board is located inside the campus of the observation home, which means many visitors on a daily basis. I asked the policemen deputed at the gate to keep a record of every person who enters and leaves the observation home premises and watch the boundary wall,” the SSP said.
