Ranchi, April 9: Where manifestos fail, music videos may just work.

Peeved by the fact that none of the political parties has included the displacement issue in their manifesto, Ranchi filmmaker Meghnath and social activist Medha Patkar have joined hands for a five-minute music video Gaon Chorab Nahi — highlighting the displacement issue.

The video is the brainchild of Meghnath and will be amply supported by Patkar, who will be in the capital to raise the displacement issue at Sainik Bazaar on April 11. The issue-based video will be directed by filmmaker K.P. Sasi, while Madhu Mansuri Hasmukh will lend his voice.

The song will run on these lines — gaon chorab nahi, jungle chorab nahi, main mati chorab nahi, main ladai karab. The video will also portray alleged atrocities on Adivasis by police, politicians and industrialists, who “pressure them to leave their land”.

Talking to The Telegraph, Sasi said his video would strengthen the tribal cause. “The film will question the country’s development model,” he added. Meghnath said: “We have witnessed parties crying hoarse over non-issues. So, we decided to show them the real ones.”
