Man tries to breach President's security cordon in Ranchi

A biker on Friday tried to breach the security cordon of President Ram Nath Kovind’s motorcade outside Raj Bhavan. He was later identified as Faizan, a resident of Kantatoli.

Fatal mishap

Dentist Mrinmay Bhagat, 30, was killed when the bike he was riding was hit by a dumper truck on the Sakchi-Burmamines road near Sunsunia gate under Burmamines police station on Thursday night. The victim was rushed to Tata Main Hospital by some local residents, but he was declared brought dead. Police said the driver of the killer truck abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. The victim was a resident of Narwa in Sundarnagar and used to practice at a nursing home in Baradwari.

National tribal fest

The 10-day National tribal festival — Aadi Mahotsav — will start at Morabadi ground from Saturday.

Tribal artisans from 25 states of the country will exhibit their tribal art and artefacts.

Kanhaiya speaks

CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar addressed a public meeting a few metres away from the spot in front of Haj House in Kadru here where women have been on an indefinite sit-in from January 20 against the new citizenship matrix. When women cross the gates of the house they can do anything, Kanhaiya told the audince of more than 4,000 people. He was expected to address the women at the sit-in venue the district administration’s refusal of permission forced the venue shift.

Theft cuffs

Seven persons were arrested on Friday for committing theft at a government school at Nega Sai under Seraikela police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on February 12. Police have seized a dozen computers and accessories.

Plea to DC

A delegation of the BJP’s SC/ST cell on Friday submitted a memorandum to East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla about problems faced by OBC, ST and SC category persons residing in urban areas in getting their caste certificates.

RIMS seats

The number of MD seats in the radiology and gynaecology departments at RIMS has been increased to seven and 15 from four and nine, respectively. President of RIMS Junior Doctors Association Ajit Kumar Singh said a letter from Medical Council of India in this regard reached on Friday.

Liquor haul

A team of state excise officials raided a godown in Sundernagar and seized a huge quantity of country-made liquor and Indian made foreign liquor. Two persons have been arrested.

Hospital check-up

A three-member team from the National Health Mission's Jharkhand quality assurance cell led by Dr B. Marandi on Friday inspected housekeeping, sanitation and biomedical waste disposal at MGM Hospital on the directive of state health minister Banna Gupta.
