The East Singhbhum district administration will constitute teams at the block level and also in three civic bodies of Jamshedpur, Jugsalai and Mango for house-to-house check if any Covid-19 positive case is found, deputy commissioner (DC) Ravi Shankar Shukla said on Thursday.

“It is part of the containment plan given by the Union health ministry for Covid-19 and the team will carry out house-to-house search within 3km radius of any Covid-19 positive case and take suspected cases to quarantine centres. Till there are no positive cases (in the district) the teams will assist the district surveillance unit in ensuring that persons who have been advised home quarantine are abiding by the protocols,” DC Shukla said.

Each team will have teachers, lab technicians, sahiyas (rural health workers) and para teachers. They will start functioning from Saturday.

The district administration is also planning to take up hotels in areas close to heal hubs to serve as quarantine centres for health workers.

“We would be taking up those hotels which are near health centres to serve as quarantine centres for healthcare workers after detection of positive cases. We would not like the workers to go home and infect their families and neighbours,” Shukla said.

The hotels will be taken over under Section 65 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The administration on Thursday handed over N95 masks and 20 personal protective equipment (PPE) to the staff at MGM Hospital in Sakchi and promised to provide around 50,000 three-layered masks for all workers employed at the hospital.

The district administration led by drug inspector Rajiv Ekka on Thursday sealed medicine outlet in Sakchi for not ensuring that customers abided by social distancing norms.

Administration and city police officials conducted random inspection at the vegetable markets for ensuring social distancing amongst buyers. The Sakchi vegetable market has been barricaded to prevent crowding.
