Five masked men, armed with pistols and sharp-edged weapons, broke into the house of a well-off Ramgarh homoeopath Dr Randhir Kumar on Thursday midnight to decamp with jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh and cash worth Rs 1 lakh.

Family members said robbers entered their house at Sido-Kanhu Nagar near Gola Road in Bazartand, took them all at gunpoint and tied them. The gang shoved the family members in a room and ransacked each and every room for an hour before escaping with the haul of gold, silver and diamond jewellery, and cash.

Those tied up were Kumar and his wife Rekha, his aged parents Mahadev Prasad and Parvati Devi, and his son and nephew.

In between, the masked robbers hit Kumar with a sharp-edged, injuring one of his hands.

Once they left, the family started shouting for help, waking up neighbours who came and rescued them. Ramgarh police were informed.

“The efficient way this crime was committed hints at the involvement of a professional gang. We are hunting for the gang,” said a policeman.
