Dhanbad Municipal Corporation is working on a Rs 253-crore plan to construct a flyover from Matkuria to Ara More in Wasseypur to cope with perennial congestion near Bank More, a commercial hub.

The state urban development department has given technical sanction to the project. DMC will give administrative approval at a special board meeting in a couple of days following which the project will be sent to the state urban development department for mandatory administrative approval.

“The detailed project report prepared by state road construction department had been revised in accordance with the DMC directive. It will prevent the entry of all heavy vehicles into the town and lessen traffic load near Bank More that has over 5,000 shops and business establishments,” mayor Chandrashekhar Agarwal said.

The 2.5km flyover, to be funded by District Mineral Development Trust, is likely to begin early next year.

The flyover, which will be crossing Dhanbad-Katras and Dhanbad-Gaya rail lines at two places, will also require an NOC from the railways.

Originally, the plan was to build a flyover from Joraphatak to Puja Talkies. A meeting was held on October 23 last year to discuss the project. However, rail authorities expressed reservation as they felt the flyover would merely shift traffic congestion from one area to the other. Agarwal, who was also present at the meeting, proposed the flyover between Makturia and Ara More.
