2 killed in stone quarry blast

Whether the explosives were set off for blasting or stored in the illegal stone quarry at Korigrah is being probed

At least two people were reportedly killed and some others injured in a blast at a illegal stone quarry to be at Korigrah in Dumka district on Sunday night, OC Sanjay Kumar Malviya of Shikaripara police station said on Monday, highlighting poor safety in illegal quarries.

“We recovered two bodies on Sunday night from remote Korigrah, 28km from Shikaripara police station,” he said. The deceased have been identified as Babu Lal Soren, 25, and Phuposya Tuddu, 47.

Shikaripara, on Jharkhand-Bengal border, is around 280km northeast from Ranchi. Local sources said some injured miners escaped to Bengal.

The OC said no one had filed a complaint till now.

Whether the explosives were set off for blasting or stored there is being probed.
