The women’s completion, too, showcases the best in the game with current world champion Wenjun Ju making her Tata chess debut.

Like last year, the tournament will have both open and women’s categories with the same format — rapid and blitz.

Top international grandmasters, Indian men and women grandmasters, young Indian talents and Viswanathan Anand, as the ambassador of the tournament, will be seen in action.

Former world blitz champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, Russia’s Alexander Grischuk and Teymour Radjabov of Azerbaijan will be playing in the open section.

“The Indian squad at the Asian Games for both men and women are participating at the Tata Steel Chess India, which itself is a testimony to the standard of the tournament,” a media statement quoted Anand as saying.

The prize fund for both the open and women’s category will be equal a $41,500.
