Royal Challengers Bangalore crashed to their fifth straight defeat in the inaugural Women’s Premier League when they lost to Delhi Capitals by six wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Monday.

Captain Smriti Mandhana flopped again, scoring a painstaking 15-ball eight. However, Ellyse Perry’s 67 not out and a late blitz from Richa Ghosh (37 off 16 balls) somehow lifted RCB to 150/4. But that wasn’t enough as the Delhi Capitals overhauled the target with two balls remaining.

With their fourth win from five matches, the Delhi franchise strengthened their second position in the standings with eight points. RCB are yet to open their account in the competition.

India all-rounder Shikha Pandey (3/23) shone with the ball for the Capitals after they won the toss and opted to bowl first. South African pacer Marizanne Kapp, fresh from her fifer against Gujarat Giants, again did well to concede only 18 off four overs.

Kapp, thereafter, contributed with the bat too with her run-a-ball 32 not out. She was also a part of the unbroken 45-run fifth-wicket partnership with Jess Jonassen (29 not out) that took Delhi home from a tricky situation.

Earlier, the RCB innings was going nowhere till Perry and Richa’s 74-run fourth-wicket stand in just 5.4 overs.
