Indian Premier League: Delhi Capitals in dire need of points

With just two wins from six games, Delhi, like RCB, have had an ordinary campaign

The Delhi Capitals' poor performance in the IPL this season has mostly gone unnoticed as most of the talk has only been around the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With just two wins from six games, Delhi, like RCB, have had an ordinary campaign.

And it can get worse if they lose to the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Delhi are placed second from the bottom of the 10-team table, just above RCB.

The Titans have had a mixed season with three wins and three losses. And with a better team on paper, they will take the field as the favourites on Wednesday.

There are other points too which point at the Titans' advantage. South African batter David Miller, who missed three games with a niggle, is set to return to the team. So too can keeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha.

Delhi, on the other hand, are disadvantaged with David Warner's injury. The veteran Australian opener is unlikely to play against the Titans and Prithvi Shaw may have a new opening partner, with Abishek Porel being a likely contender.

The Titans have been buoyed by the form of captain Shubman Gill, their highest run scorer. With Afghan spinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad doing well, the Titans look more confident.

For Delhi, much of the onus will once again be on skipper Rishabh Pant. The keeper-batter has looked good so far and will probably get even better with more games.

Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav though remains their main weapon.
