Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Super Over to qualify for the play-offs of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede on Thursday.

Opting to bat, Mumbai Indians scored 162 for five in 20 overs, and then, saw Sunrisers tied at the same score at the end of their innings.

Needing nine runs to win in the Super Over, Mumbai Indians knocked them off in three balls.

Captain Rohit Sharma was happy to have qualified for the play-offs. “Feels good knowing that we are among the top four now. It’s not easy to come through the ranks… We have played some consistent cricket throughout and we have the results for it,” said Rohit at the presentation ceremony.

“We wanted to put runs on the board, the pitch played good for all 40 overs and runs on the board is crucial… I knew that we didn’t get the score we wanted but we knew if we get early wickets we can put the pressure on their middle order,” said Rohit.

He was all praise for Manish Pandey’s 71 not out off 47 balls that helped Sunrisers force the match into the Super Over.

“Manish batted really well and he played some excellent shots but I think the game changing moment was the eight overs of spin. They bowled very well and contained the batsmen which was very important at that stage,” he said.

Rohit also lauded Jasprit Bumrah’s spell of two for 31.

“Bumrah’s been brilliant for us and he keeps improving every game and he is hungry for success and he wants to go out there and express himself… he understands that he is a lead bowler for us. He held the nerves in the crucial overs and in the Super Over as well.”

Man of the Match Bumrah said he always concentrates on the job at hand and doesn’t let pressure affect him at crucial situations.

“Sometimes the mind can get too negative, but I would like to focus on the ball which I have to bowl… If you are clear about the ball you are going to bowl, you can set the field accordingly and try to keep it as simple as possible.”
