The management of the Hyatt Regency on Bridge Street has “warned” three guests, apparently from India, that “expected protocols in terms of behaviour” will have to be “strictly adhered to” by them.
“Inappropriate conduct would lead to an immediate check-out, without a second warning,” according to a well-placed source of The Telegraph.
Around 4.30 pm on Friday, the three guests, all seeming inebriated, were seen shouting and turning aggressive in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency, which has been Team India’s address here for years.
Unacceptable behaviour continued near the three functioning elevators, compelling security personnel to stop the three guests from getting into any of them.
At about 4.45 pm, this Reporter saw a senior member of the Hyatt Regency’s management speak to the three guests in one section of the lobby. Also present were security personnel.
Clearly, a firm message was being conveyed.
Besides the Hyatt Regency’s own security, there are personnel from SES Security, which has been engaged by the International Cricket Council to, among other things, oversee arrangements in the team hotels at cities hosting World Cup matches.
Word is that a member of Team India’s support staff suggested the Hyatt Regency’s management declare the three guests persona non grata, as they had violated the players’ privacy by pestering for photographs. Even going to the extent of clicking family members.
Such action may have led to complications, so the Hyatt Regency chose to issue an unambiguous “warning” to the three guests.
That a “warning” had been issued was confirmed by Tony Williams, the security supervisor from SES Security.
It’s interesting that within an hour of the three guests being warned, more security personnel were on view at the Hyatt Regency.
“Look, it will be a challenging weekend for us,” observed one of the staffers of the Hyatt Regency, which is hosting Virat Kohli and his men till Wednesday.
Goes without saying that Virat and the rest in the India Blue (Orange on Sunday, against England) enjoy a massive following across the globe.
Naturally, fans come in different hues, sizes and of different demeanour.
