Dhanraj Nathwani, son of Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani, was elected uncontested as the new vice-president of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) at its annual general meeting on Saturday. But that’s not the story.

Under weird circumstances, there was no election for the president’s post at the GCA. It was learnt that as of now there would be no president and the chair would remain vacant. Officially, no reason was given, but perhaps a lot depends on the Board elections.

That new vice-president Dhanraj continues to also be the president of the Gujarat Football Association, as per its website, is another story.

Union home minister Amit Shah has stepped down as president of the association.

Ashok Brahmbhatt, Anil Patel and Bharat Zaveri were elected uncontested as secretary, joint secretary and treasurer, respectively, a GCA release said.

Shah was elected in June 2014 as GCA president after Narendra Modi vacated the post on becoming Prime Minister. Shah’s son Jay continues as joint secretary of the GCA.

Parimal, who was the vice-president of the body, said earlier in the day that he was stepping down as per the norms laid down by the Justice RM Lodha panel.

Meanwhile, Pranav Amin, son of industrialist and former BCCI treasurer Chirayu Amin, was elected as president of the Baroda Cricket Association.

Ajit, son of former BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele, was elected as secretary of the association.
