YouTube is encouraging users to opt for its premium membership tier. The video sharing platform is bringing its ad blocker policy to mobile. In an update, the company has said that users accessing videos through a third-party ad blocking app may have problems with buffering or come across an error message: “The following content is not available on this app.”

“We want to emphasise that our terms don’t allow third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership, and Ads on YouTube help support creators and let billions of people around the world use the streaming service,” the company has said in a post.

Last year, YouTube began a global effort to make users move to YouTube Premium or watch ads while playing videos. It even started disabling videos for users with an ad blocking extension enabled.

The move is to stop ad blockers that let you open YouTube within the ad blocking app, where you’ll get to view videos interruption-free.

“We only allow third-party apps to use our API when they follow our API Services Terms of Service, and when we find an app that violates these terms, we will take appropriate action to protect our platform, creators, and viewers,” said the company.
